Governance

The Brook RED Centre has a seven member Board.  The majority of Board directors identify as having a lived experience of a mental health concern. Board membership is determined by election and appointment process as set out in the Brook RED Centre Constitution.
The Board over the last two years have actively participated in organisational development working with Board Matters, a governance consultancy, to establish and practice a Governance approach based on the Tricker model. This has resulted in the establishment and endorsement of The Brook Red Centre Board Induction and Governance manual. 

Constitutionally Ordinary Members are defined:

Peer/Consumer members, people who identify as having or having had a personal experience of a mental health concern or illness or has used mental health services for their own need.

  • All of Peer Support Team identify as having a lived experienced of mental illness.
  • Four of the Seven Board Members identify as having lived experienced a mental illness.
  • A Peer representative group known as Think Tank has been developed that provides feedback in regards to programs offered, strategic planning, policy and future direction of the organisation.  This group provides recommendations to the board in regards to organsiational Policy and Strategic direction  and ensures the philosophical essence of Intentional Peer Support is reflected in all programs undertaken.

The Peer Support Team.

All people employed as part of the Peer Support Team meet the requirements for ordinary membership of the organisation.
The Brook Red Centre has engaged a group of Peer Support Workers, who work across the centres. The team comprise of full time, part time and casual employees who are employed in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Industry Award 2010.  The team have participated in specialised Intentional Peer Support training including:

  • 5 day Intentional Peer Support training delivered by existing Peer Support workers (who have completed Train the Trainer delivered by Shery Mead & Chris Hansen)

        This training includes a number of modules including:

  • What is trauma informed peer support?
  • Listening differently
  • Applying the 4 tasks
  • Practicing Mutual responsibility
  • Working with groups
  • Shared risk
  • Co- Supervision

  • Co Supervision training.
  • Defining Co Supervision
  • Values and competencies
  • Giving and Receiving Critical Feedback

  • Mentoring with experienced Peer team members
  • Ongoing mentorship and Co supervision
Office hours: 8:30am-4:30pm - Monday - Friday.
