student placements
Brook RED is committed to the development of the Lived-Living Experience Workforce and see student placements as an integral and important part of learning and development. Brook RED strives to provide placements to students that highlight the value that a first-hand lived-living experience of working through mental health challenges and/or suicidality can bring to the table, and how to effectively apply LLE expertise and approaches to practice.
Placements we offer
Brook RED is suitable to host placements for the following areas of study:
-
Mental Health Peer Work
-
Social Work
Applying for Student Placements
Brook RED have partnerships with QLD TAFE and The University of Queensland. Students from these institutions must apply for placements through their respective institutions and placement liaison officers. Students from other institutions should contact enquiries@brookred.org.au with your placement requirements, a brief cover letter, and a resume.
Important Considerations for Applicants
-
Brook RED is an entirely Lived-Living Experience managed, run, and governed organisation. Everyone that works for us identifies as having a first-hand experience of navigating and working through mental health concerns and/or suicidality. Students applying for placement at Brook RED must also identify as having a LLE and feel comfortable working from this perspective.
-
Brook RED provides services to adults 18 – 65 years of age.
-
Brook RED are generally unable to offer placements that are less than 200 hours.
-
Brook RED may consider placements of a similar field of study to those listed above on a case-by-case basis.
-
Brook RED’s counselling program is small and placements for this program are extremely limited to one student per semester. Placements are considered based on supervisor availability.
